LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A weak cold front will bring a few storms to the South Plains this evening and overnight, and more widespread rain chances Thursday. After that, the all-to-familiar pattern will dry out and heat up our area significantly for Friday and the weekend.
A nice but not very dramatic change in our weather will take place tonight into Thursday.
A cold front in the Panhandle is slowly moving south toward the South Plains. We expect a few isolated showers and thunderstorms this evening and overnight, but coverage will remain limited and mainly over the northern KCBD/FOX34 viewing area.
It will be another warm night, with lows in the 70s by morning. With the exception of strong gusts associated with storms and showers, the south wind generally will be light, around 5 to 10 mph.
Rain chances look better Thursday. As the front I mentioned stalls over the region, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday morning and continue through the afternoon. Some storms and showers are likely to continue through the evening.
Not everyone will see rain, but of those who do, some may pick up some much needed moisture. Severe weather is not expected, though a few storms could produce locally heavy rainfall, small hail, and strong wind gusts.
The chance of measurable rain will range from around 30 to 50 percent, depending on your location. The chance of rain will drop to 20 percent or less Thursday evening…
