LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock High School sophomore Amelia Anderson took home an elite honor this weekend at the Hoka McNeil Invitational in Round Rock.
Anderson claimed the first-place win in the Gold Girls Division at the cross country meet with a time of 17:49.1 in the 5,000-meter race.
She narrowly escaped second-place finisher Emma Goetz, who tallied a time of 17:49.8, in a riveting end to the race.

The event is Texas’ largest cross country meet, with over 900 competitors from around the state throughout the various divisions. 245 of those runners took part in the Gold Girls race alongside Anderson.
