Lubbock, How Hard Is It to Just Behave at the Fair?

Ladies and gentlemen, the fair is not a fight club.

I’ve seen countless social media posts circulating lately about people fighting and generally misbehaving at the South Plains Fair like they were raised by a bunch of raccoons.

What the heck is wrong with us?

It’s the fair. There are games. There are rides. Deep-fried food you wait for all year to eat, just to make yourself sick on the Tilt-A-Whirl. It’s supposed to be a fun place for families to spend time together, for kids to puke on rides, and for adults to spend a questionable amount of cash to win a stuffed Winnie the Pooh.

So, what’s the excuse for all of this?

Too much funnel cake? No luck at the ring toss? Does being cut in front of for the merry-go-round awaken the warrior spirit of our ancestors??

I know people get frustrated, but…

Yeah, I get it. You’re waiting in long lines. It’s a little hot and a little crowded. But, my goodness. You can be annoyed without throwing hands and turning the midway into a wrestling match.

Kids should be able to go to the fair without watching grown-ups behave like the last two brain cells in their heads are fighting for custody.

Leave the drama at home.

Let people enjoy the rides, eat a ridiculous amount of deep-fried bliss, and go home in peace with a gigantic stuffed Tweety Bird that the family dog will absolutely destroy before morning…
