Updates on Frenship ISD’s newest elementary and high school

LUBBOCK, Texas Ridgewood Elementary and Memorial High School are officially the names of those two new campuses. For Frenship ISD Superintendent, Dr. Michelle McCord, the years-long process of building the district’s second high school and ninth elementary school has been surreal.

“We were talking about a second high school, do we need one?, when will we need it, back in 2010,” recalled Dr. McCord. “In a way it feels like it is just happening overnight, but in other ways I’m like, ‘I can’t believe this is really happening.’”

Dr. McCord said outside of picking names, another thing that’s needed a lot of input has been which students will go to which schools.

“It is a long, kind of complicated process; a lot of thought goes into it,” said Dr. McCord. “Demographers come to our school district and they predict not only what the student population will be… but also where they live in the district.”

Ridgewood Elementary will be right behind Frenship’s newest middle school, Alcove Trails, on Xenia Avenue, while Memorial High School will be on 43rd Street, between Milwaukee and Upland Avenues.
