65 years later: Lubbock remembers ‘the day music died’ with three events

LUBBOCK, Texas — The City of Lubbock invited the Lubbock community to honor the life of Buddy Holly, 65 years after the tragic plane crash that claimed his life.

The Buddy Holly Center is set to host an all-day event on Saturday, February 3 with activities including music bingo, trolley tours, an area for kids and more, according to a press release from the city of Lubbock.

The museum will be free to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. where there will be a screening of “The Buddy I knew,” in the South Gallery and children’s activities located in the Education Station, both available all day. Music Bingo will also be taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The J.I. Allison House, located on the Buddy Holly Center grounds, will be open starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. An in-depth tour will be given of both Buddy Holly galleries at 2 p.m.

The activities don’t stop there, as trolley tours will begin at 11:30 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. Passengers will be taken to four locations connected to Buddy Holly’s life: Lubbock High School, Fair Park Coliseum, the original KDAV radio station and the City of Lubbock Cemetery, according to the press release.
