Lubbock natives bring homegrown talent to cowboy poetry gathering in Alpine, Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas — What is the Annual Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering?

Andy Hedges, a Lubbock native, told everythinglubbock.com that the poetry gathering is a weekend where a group of people who share a love for the culture of ranching and the cowboy lifestyle gather to sing music and recite poetry inspired by that shared experience.

This year’s poetry event Feb. 15-17 will be in Alpine, Texas on the campus of Sul Ross University, promising a great lineup of performers, according to Hedges. Alongside Hedges and others, another talented artist from Lubbock, Andy Wilkinson, will contribute to this special weekend.

“It’s right out there in that great cow country in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. It’s the perfect place to have this kind of event,” Hedges said.

Hedges sings traditional cowboy songs, recites old time cowboy poetry and has a podcast called “Cowboy Crossroads” where he interviews all sorts of people from the working cowboy and ranch world.
