Lubbock ISD teacher received award from Texas State Senator

LUBBOCK, Texas — Graciela Cano of Harwell Elementary School has been selected as one of 15 recipients of the Humanities Texas Outstanding Teacher Award, according to Humanities Texas.

Cano will receive a $5,000 cash award and an additional $1,000 for her school to purchase instructional materials on Monday.

Cano has been teaching for over 28 years, and for the past five years, she taught courses at Texas Tech University on pedagogy for linguistically and culturally diverse students.

The award recognizes exemplary K-12 teachers, Humanities Texas said.

Humanities Texas Board Member, Sean Cunningham and State Senator Charles Perry will present Cano with her award Monday afternoon at Harwell.
