Veterans Cemetery projected to open in Lubbock by 2025

Lubbock, Texas — The Veterans Cemetery had its groundbreaking in November and crews have been hard at work these last couple of months and are on track to open in 2025.

Getting the dirt moved and mapped according to the blueprint, Texas Veteran Land Board, Norman Bearden said he hopes to open in the fall, around or on Veterans Day of 2025.

Bearden said crews “had to do some dirt work out there and scrape some ground and run some prairie dogs off. So that’s really our biggest concern right now is getting everything set up for the pre-construction.”

If some have driven by the site, they have noticed a sign stating it’s the future home of the West Texas cemetery and Bearden said, “It’ll be very visible from the road. But yeah, we really hope the public can see our progress.

Bearden tells EverythingLubbock.com that since the groundbreaking, the pre-registration has gone up.

“We’ve doubled the pre-registration applications that have come in than were expected,” Bearden said. “So those are just those are just coming in daily. So we’re right now we’re at 221 as of yesterday, 221 pre-registered veterans for the cemetery.”
