One Lubbock homeowner frustrated by recent ordinance

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock homeowner, Jenni Boller, said she started having sewer problems in November of last year. She called a plumber, who then called the City of Lubbock about Boller’s crushed sewer tap in her Central Lubbock alley.

“He said usually those work orders take maybe a week, maybe two, because it was the holidays right around Thanksgiving,” Boller explained.

By the time the city updated Boller and her plumber on the request, it had already been about two months, and they got an unexpected answer: her request had been canceled.

“He gave me the response that a new city ordinance had been passed in October, and as of January 8th, they were told to no longer work any of those orders,” she recalled.

Boller told us she had no idea about the ordinance passing last year , but John Turpin, Assistant Division Director for the City of Lubbock’s Public Works Department said the rule isn’t as new as people think. Turpin said the city began fixing minor sewage issues back in 2006 after having different contractors for each job caused too much miscommunication. He said if anything, the more recent ordinance is more like a reversal.
