Former Lubbock ISD teacher announces campaign for Texas State Board of Education District 15

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock native and graduate of Lubbock Christian University, Morgan Kirkpatrick announced Wednesday morning her candidacy campaign for State Board of Education District 15.

Kirkpatrick taught middle school Reading and English in the Lubbock Independent School District for 14 years, said the release. Kirkpatrick’s experience in teaching allowed her to witness firsthand the “impact that state-level decision can have on educators, students and partners,” the release added.

According to the release, the current state of public education in Texas, the recent school voucher debates,lack of communication between decision-makers at state-level and those doing the work in classrooms served as the catalyst for her to run.

Kirkpatrick said that Texas’ public education system is under threat like never before.

She added that for more than a decade teachers have expressed critical issues like high-stakes testing, overburdened schools and a curriculum that fails to prepare kids for success.
