Texas Senator Charles Perry explains border conflict between Texas and U.S.

LUBBOCK, Texas — A wide-scale conflict between the federal government and the state of Texas continues to unfold as up to 500 migrants cross the Eagle Pass border every day and as both sides try to navigate how to handle security at the border between the U.S. and Mexico.

Increased conflict comes in the wake of the Supreme Court issuing an order last Monday to remove the wire that the state of Texas installed to deter border crossings. The Supreme Court’s decision sparked conversation from Texas representatives who echo the need for Texas to protect itself since they believe the federal government won’t.

Texas State Senator Charles Perry spoke with EverythingLubbock.com on Wednesday about these sentiments and said he agrees with them. He believes that the state has the right to defend its border from “invasion” if the federal government won’t.

What’s going in Lubbock’s old Texas Roadhouse building?

“Texas had made its stance clear. We have the right to defend this state,” Senator Perry said. “You can’t argue with the state’s right to defend itself and actually – we’re defending the country.”
