LUBBOCK, Texas — There are nearly two weeks left in the window for Lubbock to choose a new electric provider. Some are waiting until the last minute to choose a provider, but searching for a new electric provider shouldn’t be a last-minute decision.

EverythingLubbock.com created a list of electric providers that renters and homeowners can choose from, along with some helpful information to make finding a new provider a bit easier.

Customer’s rates may vary depending on residence size and average kilowatts per month. The rates given are based on a 2,000 kWh per month household.

How one woman, whose priority was not price, chose her electric provider

  • 4Change Energy – The website said rates vary from 13.5 -15.8 cents per kWh. Plans range from 12 to 24 months, with low to no cancellation fees and fixed energy charges.
  • Alliance Power – The website said rates vary from .0996 to .1701 cents per kWh. Customers can choose between one or two-year contracts as well as contracts with no specific end date.
  • Ambit Energy – According to the website, rates can vary from 15.5 to 17.5 cents per kWh to 9.5 to 8.5 per kWh for an apartment, based on a 2000 kWh/month usage. Apartment residents can choose between a 6, 12 or 24-month plan while house residents can choose between 12, 24 and a flexible plan.
  • Amigo Energy – Rates may vary from 18.6 to 14.8 cents per kWh, according to the website. Customers can choose between 12, 24, 36 and 60-month plans. Each plan includes an option to reduce your carbon footprint for $9.99 a month.
  • AP Gas and Electric – Rates may vary from 13.8 to 17.9 cents per kWh. The website said plans vary from 3, 12, 24 or 36-month contracts. Early termination fees vary from $150 to $350.
  • BKV – The website said rates may vary from 16.3 to 19.9 cents per kWh. Plans vary from 6, 12, 24 or 36-month contracts. The company’s cancellation fee is $20 a month for every month on the contract.
  • Cirro Energy – The website said the company’s plan varies from 14.9 to 18.3 cents per kWh. Residents can choose between month-to-month, 12-month and smart nights with cheaper nighttime rates.
  • CleanSky Energy – The company’s energy rates range from 17.4 to 18.6 cents per kWh, according to the website. Contracts with the company can be 6, 12 or 24 months. Cancellation fees will cost more the longer your contract is.
