Joe Arrington Cancer Center in Lubbock reminds community of importance of cancer screenings

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Feb. 4, World Cancer Day, Joe Arrington Cancer Treatment and Research Center in Lubbock reminded people to stay on top of checkups and screenings to catch anything out of the ordinary early.

This year’s theme is “Close the Care Gap,” as experts stress the earlier you catch cancer, the better your chances are of having successful treatment.

“Without screening, if cancer develops to the point where you start having symptoms, you may have already progressed to the point where treatments may not be successful or the cancer has spread,” Dr. Gabriel Axelrud with Joe Arrington Cancer Center said.

If you are prone to certain cancers, Dr. Axelrud also recommended you get extra screenings.
