Man arrested for arson, setting fire to Slaton home

LUBBOCK, Texas — Carlos Ramon-Amador Balderas, 39, was arrested on Sunday and charged with arson after he was accused of setting fire to a home in Slaton at South 3rd Street, according to court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com .

The homeowner’s son was nearby when he saw black smoke coming from his father’s residence, court records said. He noticed a medium-sized fire going up the wall of the attached garage. Records said the son used a water hose to put the fire out.

After the fire was put out, the son noticed large amounts of used oil were thrown on the electric garage doors, the front of the home, the front door area, flower beds and on the north wall of the residence, court records said. There was also a lawn mower on the property that did not belong to the son or his father.

Court records said when police were on the scene, they saw a Hispanic male walking across the street from the house. An officer spoke to Balderas who identified himself as Carlos Balderas. Records said Balderas told the officer “yo lo hice” in Spanish which translates to “I did it” in English, according to court records.
