DALLAS — Blake Burris, a 300-pound defensive lineman from Irving, Texas, announced his decision to join SMU for the 2024 season with three years of eligibility remaining. Last season as a redshirt sophomore for Texas Tech, Burris played in the first three games before a knee injury kept him off the field for the rest of the season.
He joined Texas Tech for the 2021 season after attending Parish Episcopal High School where he was a first team all-state selection and was a state title in 2019. Burris enrolled in Air Force Prep out of high school before following in two of his older brothers’ footsteps to Lubbock.
Burris redshirted his first season for the Red Raiders and played in all 13 games in the 2022 season, mostly as a special team’s player. Off the field, he was selected to the Academic All-Big 12 first team.
Burris announced his decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal in January with a post on X that read, “After thoughtful consideration, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate. I want to express my deepest gratitude to Texas Tech for the opportunity and unforgettable experiences. A special thanks to all my teammates, coaches, and the fans in West Texas and beyond. It has been an honor to wear the read and black. Wreck em!”
