Lubbock business asks for help after losing customers from construction

LUBBOCK, Texas — Ever since a construction project started in front of Mary Salazar’s 20-year-old restaurant on 34th Street, El Ranchito Burrito, she said she’s been losing customers.

The construction started four months ago and it’s all part of a $200 million project that voters approved over a year ago. The project promised to re-pave and widen 22 miles of streets around Lubbock.

While the construction will ultimately help Salazar’s business when it’s all done, she said she’s struggling right now. According to the owner, they’re having to close earlier in the day due to the lack of business.

“We’ve been real slow so I can’t keep so many people because the money is not coming in,” Salazar said.

After four months of seeing fewer customers, she finally posted on Facebook to ask the community for help on Tuesday night.

“I asked for your support to help us through these tough times,” Salazar said in her post to the LBK Foodies Facebook group.
