Reckless driver leaves traffic stop in Lubbock, found hiding near disabled car

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department said one person was taken into custody along Highway 87 after driving away from a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.

Police told EverythingLubbock.com an officer tried to stop a car in the 5300 block of South Avenue Q Drive at 12:43 p.m. According to LPD, the car took off, and the officer decided not to chase the vehicle.

Other officers in the area also saw the car “driving recklessly,” police said, and also decided not to chase it due to safety concerns. LPD said a citizen later reported a vehicle matching that description was “disabled” in the area of 114th Street and Highway 87. The driver was found hiding nearby, LPD stated.

The suspect’s identity was not immediately released.
