Fentanyl seen in different forms in the South Plains, experts said

Lubbock, Texas — Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe told EverythingLubbock.com the fentanyl crisis here in Lubbock is still ongoing, and with counterfeit drugs, the battle continues.

Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe said, “One of the big trends we’ve seen, you know, pretty well since we talked last about this is the fact that we’ve seen a big increase in the amount of counterfeit fentanyl. Counterfeiting it to look like other drugs, counterfeiting it to look like candy.”

United Medical Center Training Chief, Chad Curry said he and his team have encountered the drug in vape pens.

Sheriff Rowe says distributors of the drug are following trends within the younger age group to get them addicted to the drug.

“One thing with fentanyl is, is the fact of its lethality and also what’s important for people to know out there is that seven out of ten pills that we test today have a lethal dose of fentanyl in them,” Sheriff Rowe said. “Letting people know, letting our kids, letting our college age, you know, we young men and women understand the risks and dangers.”
