Man found dead in East Lubbock backyard, report details conflicting stories

LUBBOCK, Texas — A police report obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Friday revealed what happened after a man was found dead with a gunshot wound near an East Lubbock residence in late January.

The Lubbock Police Department previously said officers were called to the 1700 block of East 27th Street at 3:54 a.m. for a report of a dead body. According to the police report, someone called police and said there was a man in her backyard who was not breathing and appeared to have been shot. The woman said she did not recognize the man or know when it happened. According to the report, the woman said she and her roommate did not hear anything before finding the victim.

A responding officer documented in the report that the woman “remained very calm and collected while standing just inches from the body.” The report stated there was a large amount of blood near the man’s head, and he did not show any signs of activity in his eyes.
