What are the Lubbock police towers around town?

LUBBOCK, Texas — If you’ve ever seen the Lubbock Police Department towers around the city and don’t know what they are, you’re not the first.

These towers have been spotted at many locations around Lubbock and many people are unsure of their purpose.

EverythingLubbock.com talked to the LPD to get more insight into these towers and their purpose in serving the Lubbock community.

These towers are known as stramm security towers. These towers come from the $56 million of ARPA funding and the close to half a million that the Lubbock Police Department had spent on new equipment to assist and make the city of Lubbock safer.

The towers are operational, whether manned or unmanned, with cameras equipped to scan for criminal activity.

A look at what the Lubbock Police Department spent ARPA funds on

Brady Cross, Lieutenant of the Information Support Unit stated, “The Deputy Chief at each station deploys the tower as needed, based on crime trends or other neighborhood concerns.”
