Lubbock artist paints Patrick Mahomes to represent Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas — A Lubbock man who was born and raised in the Hub City said the two murals he has done and the new painting he is almost done with is to represent the Red Raiders.

Joey Martinez said he had an encounter with Patrick Mahomes in his last year of attending Texas Tech University and he remembers it vividly.

“I went to school at Texas Tech, and my last year at Tech, I saw Patrick Mahomes leaving from practice, and I just pulled up next to him and I flagged him down,” Martinez said. “He came over and I just told him he was doing an amazing job. And I was like, ‘one of these days you’re going to go pro.’”

And now seeing where, who was then, ‘Number 5’ in the NFL, Martinez said is amazing.

Martinez said, “I’m amazed and I think he’s amazed a lot of people, you know, with all the records he’s been breaking.”

Martinez told EverythingLubbock.com that the first mural he spray-painted of Patrick Mahomes came after the Chief’s first Super Bowl win in 2020 and the second one came last year.
