Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates place first in UIL Girls Region 1-5A tournament

CANYON, Texas — Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates finished first in the UIL Girls Region 1-5A tournament at First United Bank Center. The team finished first with 213 team points. The Lady Pirates are currently ranked 1st in the state with 137 team points and have 10 individually ranked girls. The team is nationally ranked 9th.

Zoë Bennett finished as the regional champion for the 126 weight class.

Taylin Silco the 138 regional champion remains undefeated as she heads to state next Friday.

The team travels to the UIL State Championship in Cypress with 9 girls competing for a chance at a state title and an alternate. Lubbock-Cooper has a chance of placing 1st this year after they finished in 2nd last year losing to Northwest by 3.5 points.

Lubbock High Lady Westerners finished in 9th place with 66 points. Maddie Peña is the regional champion for 114 weight class and ranked 3rd in the state. Marielle Prieto will serve as an alternate for the 235 weight class while Peña and 3rd state-ranked Karisma Ramos will be wrestling for their chance at a state title.
