A Texas Tech tradition has returned after a different longtime Red Raider business expanded into a former bookstore,

Varsity Books first opened its doors in 1934 and became a landmark for Texas Tech’s students, staff and alumni for generations. In September 2022, the bookstore announced it would close due to the growth in “e-books and supply chain issues,” according to prior coverage.
Red Raider Outfitter, which started in 1975, acquired Varsity Books and expanded into the 30,000 sq. ft. facility in late April. The Varsity Books’ management team has returned to the location as well.
Along with the new flagship, Red Raider Outfitter has locations at 2416 Broadway, 413 University Ave. #100, inside the South Plains Mall at 6002 Slide Road, and at 6816 Slide Road. People can also shop online at redraideroutfitter.com.
