Investigators say South Fork fire caused by lightning strike

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Fire investigators now believe the South Fork wildfire that claimed two lives and burned more than 17,000 acres was caused by a lightning strike. The Bureau of Indian Affairs released their report on Wednesday, detailing the results of the investigation conducted by wildland fire investigators and law enforcement officers from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, Bureau of Land Management, U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Mescalero Conservation Law Enforcement Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, New Mexico State Parks, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
