Candy Girl in Lubbock finds sweet success with pickle kits, nostalgic candy, trendy snacks

Her name is Felicia Hipolito, but most people call her the Candy Girl, and she is building a candy land where nostalgic sweets meets trendy eats.

Hipolito recently opened The Candy Girl, 4618 50th St., after her son’s gift of freeze-dried candy in 2023 put her on the fast track to become the owner of a candy shop.

“Anybody who knows me knows that I absolutely love candy, like I will skip a meal if I can have gummies,” Hipolito said. “My son bought this candy for me and I thought, ‘I can do this.’”

Not only could she do this, but she quickly excelled and started selling by the end of 2023, while also helping her son operate a food truck. By Easter weekend of 2024, The Candy Girl had a food truck and a popular brand.

“It skyrocketed from there,” Hipolito said. “We had to pick and choose what we wanted to take to each event, but sometimes it got too hard to choose. That’s when we thought, ‘lets have a store.’”
