1 firefighter hospitalized, released after overnight fire in central Lubbock

One Lubbock Fire Rescue firefighters was hospitalized after crews battled a residential fire that destroyed a home Thursday night in central Lubbock.

According to a Lubbock Fire Rescue social media post, crews responded around 8:45 p.m. to a residential structure fire near the intersection of 16th Street and Avenue L. The caller reported seeing smoke coming from a single-story home.

The house had two separate attic spaces, which, according to LFR, complicated its firefighting efforts. The conditions worsened, causing crews having to evacuate and switch to a defensive strategy.

The fire was eventually brought under control, but the house was deemed “a total loss.” The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office.

According to LFR, one firefighter was taken to University Medical Center for evaluation and was released early Friday morning.

No other details about the fire have been released at this time.
