Lubbock teen accused of shooting at Burns Park

LUBBOCK, Texas — Court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Wednesday shed light on why Dazaun Jones, 18, was charged with five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Jones was arrested on August 27 in the 4400 block of 43rd Street. According to court documents, Jones was accused of firing his gun through the windows of an occupied vehicle on June 7.

According to court records, a woman told police she was at Burns Park with her sister and some friends when several people approached. Court documents said the group wanted to fight the woman’s sister, and they started an altercation. The woman said she saw a young man with a gun, so she went and got her own firearm, but did not shoot it. The women got back in the vehicle, and a suspect identified as Jones shot the window, shattering the glass. Court records said the women were not hurt by gunfire but had some injuries from the glass.
