Lubbock teen pleads guilty to aggravated assault in connection with deadly shooting

LUBBOCK, Texas — Ahdias Stewart, a Lubbock teen previously accused of Murder in connection with the shooting death of Dicky Ruiz, 56, has pleaded down to Aggravated Assault and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to court records obtained on Wednesday.

Stewart, 19, entered his plea on Tuesday. The Murder charge was dropped as part of the deal.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported authorities responded to reports of shots fired in the 9900 block of North Boston just after 1:30 a.m. on October 7. According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Ruiz and Andrew Mojica, 46 at the time, were found with gunshot wounds. Ruiz died from his injuries at University Medical Center and Mojica was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Court documents described a drug deal gone wrong, and stated Anthony Vasquez, 44, was accused as trying to “purchase illegal narcotics” from Ruiz when the shooting happened. Police later caught up with Vaquez and Stewart, who initially denied any involvement. When confronted with evidence, Stewart said he fired about five shots from the gun.
