Man arrested in Lubbock fentanyl overdose death investigation sentenced to five years

A 36-year-old man, arrested last year in connection with an investigation into a fentanyl overdose death, was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a drug possession charge.

Michael Micolites, who has been held at the Lubbock County Detention Center since his Jan. 6, 2023, arrest, appeared in the 364th District Court with his attorney, Charles Blevins and pleaded guilty to a count of possession of between 1-4 grams of fentanyl, a second-degree felony.

Micolites, who faced between two to 20 years in prison, entered his plea ahead of a Sept. 23 jury trial.

Micolites’ charge stems from a Jan. 5, 2023 Lubbock police investigation that began when officers responded to a dead body call at the Elm Creek Apartments in the 2600 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

A baggie of blue pills with M-30 stamped on it lay on the bed.
