Officials ID Colorado, Lubbock youths accused of making threats against area schools

A juvenile in Colorado has been identified and will likely face charges in connection with a series of potential bomb threats made against Lubbock-area high schools earlier this week, state and school district officials confirmed Friday.

Five other juveniles in the Lubbock area were also identified and being investigated for potential involvement in “perpetuating the false threats,” according to news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It was not immediately clear what, if any, connection the male youth in Colorado Springs, Colorado has to the Lubbock area or what have have prompted the threats, which were made Monday and Tuesday.

Around 1:30 p.m. Sept. 9, Texas DPS was notified of potential bomb threats made against Coronado High School and Frenship High School, according to the DPS news release. DPS immediately contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and began investigating. The following day, investigators discovered the same suspect made additional threats against the schools, as well as Lubbock High School and Monterey High School in LISD and Lubbock-Cooper High School in the Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District.
