‘I did that’: Lubbock murder suspect’s admission, voicemail to detective detailed in court records

LUBBOCK, Texas — Court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Wednesday revealed Armando Champion, 57, left a voicemail for a detective before he was arrested and accused of murdering Elmo Minjarez, Jr., 54.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported Minjarez was connected to human remains found south of Lubbock following reports of his disappearance.

Court documents stated the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit (Metro) was investigating an “unrelated homicide” when authorities first became aware that Minjarez was “missing and possibly shot and killed.”

Detectives started efforts to locate Minjarez on September 12, according to court documents. Friends and family members told police they had not heard from him since August. Court documents stated a missing person report was filed on September 16.
