Police ID 1 killed, 4 injured after SUV and car crash in downtown Lubbock

One person was killed and four were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday in downtown Lubbock.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash that was reported at 12:04 a.m. Sept. 29 at the intersection of 16th Street and Avenue K, according to a statement from LPD.

Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears an SUV driven by 19-year-old Carlos Sanchez-Luna was traveling north in the 1700 block of Avenue K.

A passenger car was traveling west and collided with the SUV at the intersection of 16th Street and Avenue K. The SUV spun and struck a tree.

Sanchez-Luna was pronounced dead at the scene. Four passengers in the SUV were injured – 19-year-old Dylan Burton and 20-year-old Gabrielle Perez suffered serious injuries and 19-year-old Wyatt Stewart and 19-year-old Alexandra Sigel suffered minor injuries.

All four passengers were taken by EMS to Covenant Medical Center.

The driver of the passenger car, who was not identified, was not injured.
