Funeral procession in Lubbock planned for fallen DPS trooper

LUBBOCK, Texas — A funeral procession for the fallen Department of Public Safety Trooper, Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, will be held on October 1 at 9:30 a.m., DPS said.

DPS, along with the Lubbock Police Department and Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, will escort Ramirez Vasquez from Resthaven Funeral Home to Lubbock Aero. The route was planned to start at Resthaven Funeral Home and travel North on Frankford Avenue, to Loop 289. From Loop 289, the procession will exit onto N. Interstate 27 and proceed North to Exit 9 (Keuka Street).

Ramirez Vasquez suffered life-threatening injuries while responding to a crash earlier in September. He was first taken to a local Odessa hospital before being airlifted to a Lubbock-area hospital where he died on September 28.

The trooper started his law enforcement career when he joined DPS in 2023. Ramirez Vasquez was stationed in Odessa. Before DPS, Ramirez Vasquez served in the United States Army and was serving in the National Guard before his passing.
