The Lubbock Police Department have been working on growing its Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) which helps in crisis.

“We have what are called mental health officers or MHO’s scattered throughout the department, they work on different shifts in different parts of town,” said Officer Ethan Noble, a member of the CIT.

Noble said while the unit itself is small right now, he hopes it will continue to grow. He also said they can access a civilian mental health clinician provided by Starcare.

Noble said each situation and how police respond depends on the person.

“We see everything from somebody who’s just having a bad day, needing somebody to talk to, all the way to somebody who’s maybe never been diagnosed or not medication compliant and other an acute crisis,” Noble said.
