Lubbock first responders honor fallen DPS trooper with procession

Law enforcement officers and first responders from the Lubbock area led a procession for fallen Texas State Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez — who died Saturday in Lubbock days after he was hit by a car in Ector County — through Lubbock to the airport on Tuesday morning.

Members of the Texas Department of Public Safety escorted Ramirez Vasquez’s remains from Resthaven Funeral Home to Lubbock Aero for his return to the Permian Basic.

The Lubbock Police Department and Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic direction.

Ramirez Vasquez, 25, began his DPS career in 2023 and was stationed in Odessa. He served in the United States Army before joining DPS, and he was actively serving in the National Guard, the department said.

He is survived by his parents and three siblings. Funeral arrangements had not been announced by Monday afternoon.

Trooper hit while investigating Ector County crash, dies at Lubbock hospital

Ramirez Vasquez was hit by a car while investigating a crash Sept. 17 along State Highway 302, just east of Notrees in Ector County, the Avalanche-Journal previously reported . He was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa with serious injuries before being airlifted to Lubbock for further treatment.
