Blue Alert issued, Memphis PD Chief hospitalized in Lubbock after shooting

HALL COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert early Friday morning for 33-year-old Seth Altman who is wanted for involvement in seriously injuring a law enforcement officer in Memphis, Texas.

Altman is described as a 6’2 White male with blue eyes, red/auburn hair and approximately  weighs 220 lbs. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with blue jeans, said DPS.

Lubbock PD searching for driver seen near deadly weekend crash

According to DPS officials, the Memphis Police Chief was attempting to serve a burglary warrant at a home when the incident occurred. Altman ran out of the back door and shot toward the chief while fleeing the scene, DPS added.

According to DPS officials, the chief was taken to a Lubbock area hospital for treatment. As of 6:25 a.m., he was considered in stable condition.

DPS said Altman was last seen in the 200 block of South 4th Street in Memphis, Texas on Thursday at 11:04 p.m.

A social media post from the Memphis Independent School District said after an overnight incident in the community, school will be delayed until 10 a.m. An updated post from the school district stated “to ensure the safety of all MISD has canceled classes for Friday , October 4.”
