Texas Tech receives first-of-its-kind real estate donation

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech University System became part of the 3 Rivers Ranch located in Crowell, Texas, according to a press release on Monday.

The 6,000-acre ranch was gifted to Texas Tech by the 3 Rivers Foundation for the Arts and Sciences (3RF) and Dr. Fred Kochm, a graduate of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The first-of-its-kind property gift was the largest donation of real estate to the TTU System.

Texas Tech did not specify what it would use the land for but said it planned to keep 3RF open to the community, including public star parties at the ranch.

“We have to take care of the people in rural Texas who take care all of the people of this region, state, and, to a large extent, the people of this nation and even beyond our borders,” said Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., chancellor of the TTU System. “A piece of property like this is indeed a wonderful community asset for everybody, and we fully intend to ensure that, moving forward, we continue this tradition and do more for the communities we serve in this area.”
