UMC expects to make ‘substantial progress’ amid ransomware attack

LUBBOCK, Texas — University Medical Center provided an update on Friday regarding its ransomware attack and said it expects to make “substantial progress” throughout the next few days.

The hospital said its phone systems are operating normally across its organization. UMC’s healthcare facilities, including Emergency Centers and Urgent Care Clinics, remained open.

UMC said a select number of patients are being diverted from the hospital.

“UMC’s Emergency Center continues to accept patients via ambulance, and now only a select number of patients are being diverted.”

The hospital’s new 24/7 Urgent Care Clinic at UMC’s Health & Wellness Hospital opened on October 1, its scheduled official opening, and is accepting patients for care.
