Crowell ranch gifted to Texas Tech University System

CROWELL ( KFDX/KJTL ) — In a first-of-its-kind donation to one of the top public university systems in the country, the Texas Tech University System received a 6,000-acre parcel of land near Crowell that will allow it to expand its research and learning opportunities for agriculture and environmental sciences.

The 3 Rivers Ranch was gifted to the university by Quanah native and TTU Health Sciences Center alumnus Dr. Fred Koch. It is named for the region’s three rivers—the Pease, Red and Wichita—that provide the area with vast biodiversity common in short-grass prairies.

From astronomy and agriculture to community outreach, 3RR offers collaborative opportunities for each of the TTU System’s five universities. Further, it cements the system’s footprint in rural Texas as they discover new ways to serve and collaborate in the region and beyond through lifelong learning and innovations in STEM, art, health sciences and more.

University leadership has expressed tremendous excitement for this partnership and the potential projects it will bring to its academic enterprise. TTU Vice Chairwoman Ginger Kerrick Davis said, “When this partnership opportunity between the TTU System and 3 Rivers Ranch was first brought up, there was a scream of excitement.”
