Man with machete arrested after robbing Lubbock gas station

LUBBOCK, Texas — Matthew Martinez, 31, was arrested on Saturday, October 19, after he was reported to have robbed a Toot’n Totum in the 2500 block of South Loop 289.

Court documents obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Monday detailed the robbery. The two victims at the gas station said Martinez walked into the store with a machete in hand, pointing it toward the two. Court records said Martinez demanded they open the cash register, took an unknown amount of cash, stuffed it in his pockets and left on foot.

Teenager arrested after threatening woman, firing shots

Martinez was located by a Lubbock Police Department officer in the 7400 block of Waco Avenue. He matched the suspect description of a robbery that took place in the area. Court documents said Martinez told the officer he was armed with a machete and a pocket knife. The officer placed him in handcuffs and removed the machete and pocket knife. While searching Martinez, the officer found crumpled-up dollar bills inside multiple pants pockets.
