LUBBOCK, Texas — With pedalcyclist fatalities on the rise , and 106 deaths in Texas during 2023 alone, a local bike store in Lubbock is advocating for change. Owner of DFC Cycles and Fitness, Greg Davis said the community needs more established bike lanes and better signage so that drivers are more aware of the designations and cyclists are safer overall.
“We don’t have enough bike lanes for as big a city as we are, as many bikers as we have,” Davis told EverythingLubbock.com Wednesday.
Davis has been a cyclist for 40 years and a bicycle store owner for over 30 so he knows the difficulties and dangers of navigating an area without many bike lanes or proper signage.

“Anyone that rides and wants to travel anywhere across town is going to want to have a safe route to do it on and know that the drivers aren’t going to be surprised by them being there,” Davis said.
According to David Bragg, the Director of Traffic Management, the city is working to increase bike lanes through plans such as the 2018 Master Thoroughfare Plan , the Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan and the Lubbock Walk and Bike Plan.
