Former Texas bank CFO sentenced to nearly three years for embezzlement

LUBBOCK, Texas – A former chief financial officer of a small-town Texas bank has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison for embezzling more than $800,000. Vicki Lee Grisham, a 52-year-old former CEO of First State Bank of Abernathy, Texas, pleaded guilty to theft, embezzlement, or misapplication by a bank officer in July. Grisham was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix, who also ordered her to pay $800,755.63 in restitution to the bank’s insurer and serve five years of supervised release after completing her sentence, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. Court documents revealed that Grisham used a bank-issued credit card for personal expenses, including vacations, restaurant meals, clothing, college tuition, and personal income taxes, without reimbursing the bank. Upon confrontation by bank management, Grisham admitted to the unauthorized charges. As part of her plea agreement, Grisham will consent to an FDIC Order of Prohibition, barring her from future employment with any FDIC-insured financial institution. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dallas Field Office conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ann Howey prosecuted the case.
