City of Lubbock will announce when Emergency warming centers operate

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The City of Lubbock Emergency Management Department wants to remind citizens as the climate drops to dangerously cold temperatures Emergency warming centers may be established and operated when NWS forecasts:

  • temperatures at 25 degrees or below
  • an inch or more of snow
  • temperatures below 32 degrees with an inch of driving rain, severe wind chills
  • extreme temperatures fluctuations

Lubbock’s 4th on Broadway celebration not returning with Broadway Festivals in 2025

Upon activation or establishment of an emergency warming center, the City of Lubbock will broadcast information including specific locations and hours of operation for the emergency warming center.

“These centers are not intended as overnight shelters and do not have designated sleeping areas. These centers are locations where the public may temporarily seek shelter indoors from extreme cold with access to restroom facilities and water,” said Joe Moudy, Director of Emergency Management.
