Lubbock woman struggles with kidney failure and continues search for donor

LUBBOCK, Texas — After having problems with her menstrual cycle and getting tested at a lab, Elyssa Reaves found out she had kidney failure in October 2024. Since then, Reaves had dealt with anemia, severe fatigue, reduced appetite and struggles with basic tasks like washing her hair and cleaning her house.

Reaves was put on a kidney transplant list in January 2025, unfortunately, neither of her parents are a current match to give their kidneys. As Reaves continued to wait for a new kidney, she just recently had surgery to place a catheter for peritoneal dialysis, which would help her with having more energy.

“I know that God is good and He’s getting me through this, and His strength is what gets me through this, and so a lot of times relying on Him and remembering that He’s still there,” Reaves said.
