Texas to get 75% reimbursement for rest area, Crabapple fires costs

HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — Today, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved the state’s request for Fire Management Assistance Grants to help fight the Rest Area Fire in Gray Co . and the Crabapple Fire in Gillespie Co .

“Texas is working around the clock to provide all necessary resources to local officials fighting wildfires in Gray and Gillespie counties. With the approval of these Fire Management Assistance grants, we will continue to support our brave firefighters as they battle these dangerous blazes. The safety and well-being of Texans is our No. 1 priority.”

The approval means Texas could get up to 75% reimbursement from the federal government for the costs of these two major fires. The grants are typically available for fires that threaten to destroy public or private forests or grasslands and would constitute a major disaster.
