LUBBOCK, Texas — On Saturday, a group held a small demonstration of nearly 20 people in total at the Tim Cole Memorial advocating for immigrant rights and Hispanic support. The group was then met with a man who confronted them with racial slurs and were told “this is my country.”
A protester and also Secretary of Lubbock County Democratic Party, Kyle Rable, told everythinglubbock.com said the protest that happened on Saturday, March 15th, was to bring to light an issue he’s passionate about. Rable said, “so we were out here. We’ve had demonstrations out here before. It was mostly about the anti-immigrant sentiment that has been really kind of fostered over the last couple of months. Immigrants are such a vital part of our community, and we hate to see the attacks that we’re seeing on them.”
Rable said the protest at Tim Cole Memorial Park remained peaceful until one guy did not like what he was seeing and decided he needed to say something. Rable said, “pulled his head out the window and started doing the Nazi salute. — and other racial slurs. He circled back around, and he was going super-fast him around because he could have caused traffic accident. And so I ran to confront him.”
The Army veteran said that is when he felt like he had to protect his own, Rable said, “the people that were with me are my community. They’re my extended family to me. So I felt the need to kind of go up a step up and show him that we aren’t afraid You know, white supremacy isn’t an actual good ideology. We aren’t afraid of, you. We’re here to protect ourselves and our family and our community.”…
