LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Fire weather concerns return Saturday as temperatures climb and winds increase once again.
Winds will increase through the day on Saturday, from the southwest at 20-30 mph and likely will be gusting to 40 mph by late afternoon and into the evening. That increases the fire danger to critical for the South Plains all day and into the evening Saturday.
Humidity levels will be low and afternoon highs will return to the mid 80s to near 90 degrees around the region Saturday. Blowing dust will also be a possibility in eastern New Mexico and all of the South Plains.
As for Sunday, some relief with a cold front and a drop in temperatures. The front arrives early Sunday morning with gusty winds that will diminish during the day. Daytime temps will remain in the 60s in the northern communities to the low to mid 70s for the central and southern areas. A few clouds with the northerly winds but rain is not in the forecast.
