Mom of former Texas Tech student raises awareness of suicide prevention after losing son

LUBBOCK, Texas — The mom of a former Texas Tech student is working to help other families from feeling the indescribable loss she’s experienced after losing her son to suicide in 2023.

Michelle Avaritt told EverythingLubbock.com on Friday that her son, Taylor Avaritt, loved anything sports and everything to do with Texas Tech University. After graduating from Texas Tech with honors, he secured his dream job and had a goal of visiting all of the national parks.

“Taylor was intelligent, compassionate. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need,” Michelle said.

But he never got that chance to finish seeing all of the parks. Taylor died by suicide at 25 years old…
