Man pleads guilty to deadly Lubbock shooting stemming from family dispute

A 48-year-old man who told investigators four years ago that he was so drunk he was unsure if he shot and killed a 68-year-old man a day after Christmas now faces five years to life in prison after admitting to the deadly shooting that his attorneys say stemmed from a family dispute.

Joshua Walker appeared Monday in the 364th District Court with his attorney, Justin Kiechler, and pleaded guilty to a count of murder in connection with the Dec. 26, 2021, shooting death of 68-year-old Alberto Garza Sr. in a south Lubbock neighborhood.

Walker, who has been held at the Lubbock County Detention Center since his Dec. 27, 2021 arrest, entered his plea after a jury of 12 people with two alternates was seated to determine his punishment…
