Kidnapped woman and child found after deadly shooting at Lubbock apartment

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock Police Department said a man was arrested in Garza County after a deadly shooting and kidnapping at an apartment in South Lubbock late Monday night.

LPD said officers were called at 10:43 p.m. for shots fired in the 3800 block of 130th Street. According to police, officers found an individual inside with a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. LPD said the suspect had kidnapped a woman and child from the apartment.

In an update sent just after 2:00 a.m., police said the suspect led multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase through multiple counties. The Crosby County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified the shooting suspect was in the area and spotted the vehicle driving through Ralls. The pursuit went through multiple counties. The suspect crashed in Post and tried to run from the scene, however, he was arrested by the Garza County Sheriff’s Office. The woman and child were found in the vehicle and are with law enforcement, LPD said.

“By God’s Grace the no one was injured in this pursuit or subsequent crash,” CCSO said in a social media post. CCSO said the pursuit “covered over 119 miles.”
